<Azure Horizons: 푸른 세계로의 여정>전은 각 작가 그리고 관람객이 바라보는 시선에 따라 다양하게 해석되는 푸른색의 영향력과 그 확장성을 환기시키고자 합니다. 전시작들은 전통적인 관념을 넘어 고귀한 푸른 빛의 세계로 초대하며, 그것의  다채로운 상징성, 정서적인 깊이, 그리고 미학적인 아름다움을 보여줍니다. 이번 전시를 통해 고요하고 신비로운 Azure(푸른) 세계로의 여정을 경험하기를 기대합니다.

필립스X의  특별전, <Azure Horizons: 푸른 세계로의 여정>은 푸른색 중에서도 가장 풍부하고 다채로운 색조이자 예술사에서 가장 가치있는 안료인 하늘빛(Azure)의 다양한 아름다움과 상징성을 고찰하고자 합니다.

푸른색의 깊이있는 다양성을 탐미하는 본 전시는, 정제된 미니멀리즘과 변치않는 미적 고결함을 선보이는 다양한 작품들을 통해 정련되고 기품있는 컬러들을 소개합니다.

 

조지 콘도(George Condo), 데본 드 자댕(Devon DeJardin), 김민구, 니콜라스 파티(Nicolas Party), 우고 론디노네(Ugo Rondinone), 살보(Salvo), 이우환, 플로라 유크노비치(Flora Yukhnovich) 등 국내•외 현대미술 작가들의 강렬한 붓터치와 역동적인 작품 세계를 만나보실 수 있습니다.

이우환 작품의 독보적인 푸른 획은 물과 유형성 그리고 시간의 연속성을 연상시키며, 붓과 캔버스 사이 작가의 물리적 교감을 조명하고 있으며, 김민구 작품은 기하학적인 형태와 함께 마치 이우환 작품을 연상시키는 세련되고 단아한 파란색의 조합을 보여줍니다.

 

 

UGO RONDINONE <vierundzwanzigsterjunizweitausendundfünfzehn>, acrylic on canvas, 280 x 185 cm (110 1/4 x 72 7/8 in.),2015.

 

우고 론디노네의 작품명 vierundzwanzigsterjunizweitausendundfünfzehn(2015)은 제작일인 2015년 6월 24일을 의미하는데, 2008년에 시작된 작가의 구름 시리즈 작품 중 하나입니다. 직사각형 캔버스는 구름과 같은 유기적인 형태로 변모하고, 수증기를 보는 듯한 착시 효과를 주는 트롱프뢰유 기법(trompe l’oeil)을 통해 제한된 캔버스 공간 안에서 역설적으로 무한한 영역으로 확장되는 느낌을 자아내는 화면을 구성하고 있습니다.

니콜라스 파티의 Tree with snow (2017) 및 나무를 묘사한 기타 풍경화들은 관람객들을 스위스의 숲 속으로 안내하는데, 스위스는 작가가 유년 시절을 보내며, 자신의 작품에 예술사적 해석을 통해 자주 차용하는 자연 소재들과의 견고한 유기적 관계를 형성하게 해준 곳이기도 합니다. 파티는 부드러운 파스텔을 주매체로 사용하며, 자신의 예술적 시각을 우아하고 정밀하게 표현합니다.

PhillipsX is pleased to present Azure Horizons: A Journey Through Blue, an exhibition which explores the multifaceted beauty and symbolism of Azure – not only the most richly layered tone of blue, but also the highest valued pigment used in painting throughout the history of art.

In this monochromatic yet richly layered exhibition, sophistication meets elegance in works that exude chic minimalism and timeless grace. Bold brushstrokes and dynamic forms bring together works by a variety of international contemporary artists including George Condo, Devon DeJardin, Minku Kim, Nicolas Party, Ugo Rondinone, Salvo, Lee Ufan, and Flora Yukhnovich among others.

From Lee Ufan’s legendary blue brushstrokes, which highlight the physical interaction between brush and paper while evoking water, corporeality, and the passage of time, to Minku Kim’s precisely applied geometric shapes and elegant color juxtapositions, inspired by Ufan’s work.

Ugo Rondinone’s vierundzwanzigsterjunizweitausendundfünfzehn (2015), meaning ‘June 24th, 2015’ – which refers to the precise date of its creation – belongs to the artist’s cloud painting series which he began in 2008. Its rectangular field transforms into cloud-like undulations to create a sharp contrast between the vaporous trompe l’oeil and depict immeasurable space while also exuding a contrary sense of finiteness.

Nicolas Party’s Tree with snow (2017) and tree pastels take the viewer through the forests of Switzerland – a country which the artist explored during childhood, and one which holds strong ties to the natural elements in the art historical canon. The artists use of soft pastels allows him to articulate his artistic vision with grace and precision.

Azure Horizons: A Journey Through Blue celebrates the evocative power and diversity of the color blue, as interpreted by each artist and seen by each viewer. The works on display combine a sense of gravitas with an invitation to transcend traditional horizons and explore the rich symbolism, emotional depth, and aesthetic beauty of the color. This exhibition offers a dynamic and introspective journey into the serene and enigmatic world of Azure.
